About Us
The McDonalds Corners Agricultural Society was formed in 1853 by the founding members of our community. Its purpose was to bring together members of the community in a common gathering place, celebrate and promote agriculture in the area, and put together an annual Agricultural Fair. In September of 2024, we will be hosting the 170th Annual Fall Fair, and the only year where a fair has not occurred was in 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Soon after its formation, the Society built the McDonalds Corners Agricultural Hall (affectionately known as the ‘Ag Hall’), located at 194 Camerons Road in McDonalds Corners, Ontario. It was built entirely by volunteers from the community, and the Society has continued to be run exclusively by volunteers ever since. It consists of a Board of Directors, including a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Homecraft Director, Junior Homecraft Director, Agriculture Director and Creative Director, along with many other members. The Board and its members meet once a month, typically on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the Hall, and members of the public who would like to volunteer are always welcome. Our volunteer positions range from preparing meals for events, tending bar, upkeep of the Hall, managing contractors, planning renovations, applying for grants, creating marketing materials, social media management, Fair activities, and much much more! All skill levels and interests are welcome!
Fundraising is an important component of keeping the Hall going, and we are very grateful to our community for participating in these activities. The McDonalds Corners Agricultural Society receives no government funding, aside from when municipal or provincial grants are awarded to us. The rest of our operations come solely from fundraising events like community dinners, dances, general donations, and from renting out the Hall for events like weddings, birthdays, celebrations of life and private family functions. We aim to provide rental opportunities to the community at a reasonable cost, and these range from small events for a couple of hours in the dining hall, to multi day events held in the dining hall, dance hall and on the grounds. Catering and licensed bar services are also available for these events.
From May through October, we also host a Sunday Market, with local vendors who sell produce, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, meats, and crafts. We have speciality markets as well throughout the year. Please visit our Upcoming Events Page to learn more about all the events that we host throughout the year.
We publish a quarterly newsletter, which is also published here as a Blog. Stay up to date on what is happening by subscribing to our newsletter.
